Hello! I’m John Weeks, developing innovative fundraising and communication strategies in Southeast Asia.

I particularly relish the challenge of growing nonprofit infrastructure. I’ve founded Our Books, Our Books Illustration and Design, House32 Web Design, and assisted in getting Open Development Cambodia and the ICT4 Cambodia Development Network off the ground.

I serve on the boards of Open Development Cambodia, Our Books, Nou Hach Literary Journal, and arts ‘think tank’ Sang Salapak.

I frequently teach at varied tech events, and enjoy sharing my interests via blogging, cartooning and varied writing. My opinions on art, culture, and technology are cited in publications ranging from Time and USA Today to Punk Planet.

Please feel free to get in touch.

Hello Sunil,

The best of New Year’s greetings to you.
I am planning on attending FOSSASIA and thought I would check with you to see if you were also joining.

We see a lot of “technology-heavy” talks at FOSSASIA and BarCamp type meetings. It would be fun to provide a talk on the culture arising from the proliferation of ‘open’ technology and philosophy.

I’ve successfully presented on ‘Unauthorized’ culture in Cambodia.

(And I am running across more examples all the time.) 🙂

If you are planning to attend FOSSASIA, I might suggest we have a workshop / project to open up the discussion about ‘Unauthorized Culture’.

i.e. how can we most effectively deploy and refine your proposed taxonomy?
What does our growing list of examples signify about Open/web culture?
What examples can participants recommend?

Best regards

Dear John,

Unfortunately I will miss you again. However will you be at RightsCon
Manila? I have stopped following this area for some time but I will
come back to it soon. Thanks for your massive collection of resources
– – it needs careful perusal. Will be spending couple of hours soon
reflecting on the implications of some of the gems that you have located.

Wishing you and your loved ones health and happiness for 2015!

Best wishes,

Sunil
