Hello! I’m John Weeks, developing innovative fundraising and communication strategies in Southeast Asia.

I particularly relish the challenge of growing nonprofit infrastructure. I’ve founded Our Books, Our Books Illustration and Design, House32 Web Design, and assisted in getting Open Development Cambodia and the ICT4 Cambodia Development Network off the ground.

I serve on the boards of Open Development Cambodia, Our Books, Nou Hach Literary Journal, and arts ‘think tank’ Sang Salapak.

I frequently teach at varied tech events, and enjoy sharing my interests via blogging, cartooning and varied writing. My opinions on art, culture, and technology are cited in publications ranging from Time and USA Today to Punk Planet.

Please feel free to get in touch.

Cambodia ICT Camp, Siem Reap

2010: I attend Mekong ICT Camp, which is a transformative experience. I got to hear from thinkers like Open Data wonk Laurence Millar and Michel Bauwens (Peer To Peer Foundation).

2011: After discussion with Terry Parnell East-West Managment Institute (‘We need objective sources of information’) we begin work on a ‘proof of concept’ for ‘Open Development Cambodia’ data sharing web site. Work continues and the site begins evolving into an organisation.

2013: Return to the next iteration of Mekong ICT Camp and present on OpenDevCam, thanking them for their influence.

2014 – 2016: ‘ODC’ continues to grow and begins to reach out as ‘OpenDevMekong‘. I keep in touch with Mekong ICT team – how can we get the camp to Cambodia? It’s a great training that can be transformative.

2017: Mekong ICT rotates its camp to be run in Siem Reap. (Sadly I don’t have time to go.) ODC helps and discusses ‘localizing’ the camp.

2018: Cambodia ICT Camp. I present on ‘Open Source Social Media‘ and varied other topics. So great to see networks and people I know taking bold steps.

Camp participants come from a variety of fields, both in the public and private sectors, he added, who wish to receive training on best practices when using modern technology.
